Dear Reader, I’m calling in sick.

Dear Reader,

I’m calling in sick..

I’ve been in bed with a fever the past few days and haven’t been up for much—this is a brief post because, as I type it, I’m working on sitting upright and easing back into something like normal(ish) activity.

I should have known I was in for it when I left work early on Wednesday; I don’t ever do that, and I only had an hour left. Clear sign.

While I hate being sick, and it is hard to feel lucky when you are fighting fevers, congestion, and sinus headaches, I’ve still been feeling especially aware of the privileges I have- even when sick.

It has been especially cold in Wisconsin this week, so how lucky I am to have a warm and cozy place to stay and rest while I am sick. Then there is the simple privilege of being able to call in sick at all, to take the time to rest, and to have a partner who could call in too and stay home to take care of me. And the privilege to be able to go out and get the DayQuil and green tea.

So, while I am very much over being sick and hope to be on the mend soon, the privileges I enjoy- even while sick- are not lost on me, even through the haze.

Until next week – take care, and try to avoid the nasty bugs going around,

Everett
