Budgets:

Not Another Personal Finance Blog…

You’re right. The world (and internet) does not need yet another personal finance blog. Luckily, that’s not really what this is. I say that with true and sincere deference and admiration to the Personal Finance Queens who are bloggers and content creators out there. I absolutely adore so many of them and will share links to their content here as I find inspiration and guidance in them.

It is their work, compassion and online communities that have helped me to get where I am today in my personal, financial and career development journey. Nothing makes me happier than the idea of promoting and sharing their voices with others. My favorite content creators and inspirations are never judgemental, always relatable and focus on concrete action-oriented solutions to the daily financial and professional struggles and opportunities we face. There is no use restating what they have already said best, so this blog will instead share links directly to their content to share their brilliance and beauty.

So, what are we here for? Good question. This blog is meant to create a shared safe space for seeing, relating and empowering one another. The Budgets page of the blog will give a peak into the day-to-day, unglamorous reality of what it takes to create joy while struggling to live within your means.

In case you have not noticed lately, it is hard out there! The world seems to be going crazy, and as so many memes and TikToks will tell you, outside costs about $300/day. In this blog, I will share how I am getting by (barely) through my experiences (successes & failures) in trying to create a life I adore that feels like thriving (some days barely surviving) while living within my means.

A few promises to start us off:

I am not going to tell you that you too could be debt-free if you skip your morning latte. I promise. However, I will share with you my experience in finding increased joy and peace in making just as good (if not better) lattes at home.

Reading this blog won’t give you the key to saving up for the 20% downpayment on a house, and to prove it I am Officially Still Renting. Instead, I will share how my partner and I think about and plan future homeownership while making the most of our small piece of rented Heavenly Hell while we are here.

I won’t bully you into “budgeting” or whatever else you want to call it. What I will share is how tracking and acknowledging where my money goes gives me more, not less, freedom in my spending and saving.

I probably won’t convince you that skipping the weekly (or semi-weekly) DoorDash will revolutionize your finances. I will, however, provide alternatives that avoid pricey delivery fees, tips and overpaying for soggy fries and cold cheese dip.

Finally, I promise I absolutely won’t do everything (or maybe anything) right. I’ll put too much money into debt repayment, and not enough into savings. I will “throw away” thousands of dollars on rent that “could be going to equity in a home”. I will consume far too much cheese and too many carbs. And who knows what else I’ll suck and fail at- more to come, folks! Afterall, I’m just a silly little mess out here doing my d*** best, like so many other $pent Millennials. This page will share the good, the bad and the ugly behind the scenes of one silly little mess doing her d*** best to make ends meet and budgets balance to create a dream life, life.
