The rest of it…

What more is there to discuss…?

Okay, so what else is there? We covered money and food in the other pages. What more is there to discuss?

For better or worse, our days (or at least my days) are filled with much more than money and food. If you have found a way to fill your days with money and food and avoid, well, the rest of it, please let me know in the comments. Really, please do! I will be waiting…

Until then, our days and minds fill with so much more than we can possibly process on a daily basis. Some of it is drastically important, some of it less so. I’m talking about…

  • The constant nagging in the back of your mind to spend more time with growing children and aging parents
  • The toxic voice in your head that accuses you of never doing enough – even when you spend every moment of your day thinking, going, chasing, hustling…
  • The never-ending comparisons you can’t help but make (no matter how much you claim you don’t) as you scroll Facebook, ‘The Gram’, TikTok and whatever else the kids are on these days
  • The overwhelming feeling that everyone else somehow has this whole ‘life’ thing figured out much better than you do.

Although most days, the idea of blocking out everything other than money and food sounds delightful, in reality that’s not the dream. Hard as it is to believe, and admit, the real dream is found in throwing your back out in January and realizing how you never want to take for granted the joy and freedom found in bundling up for daily walks around the block. It is found in overpaying rent for a cruddy apartment so that you can enjoy morning runs on the nearby nature path and weekend coffee dates in the quaint downtown. It’s the adoring eyes of a dog you can’t stay mad at even as he is systematically tearing apart the aforementioned cruddy apartment due to re-triggered isolation distress.

The dream is found in the messy moments that make up the rest of it. The moments that we miss when we blink and ignore as mumble about what we “can’t wait for”. These moments are what I will share, and what I invite others to share on this page. I am excited, thrilled and terrified all at the same time. It’s exhausting. I can’t wait!
